I went to Belgium and pretty much just ate. Oh, and bought cute mushroom chip clips.
Something, Somewhere, Sometime
I was in Morocco. I'm now in Amsterdam. These are things I do, eat, and like.
The Exchange: Rachel Shukert on Memoir Writing, Jewish Identity, and the Dutch Love of Phil Collins
A travel memoir to read.
Before I start posting more about this adventure I feel I should sort of wrap up the last one. Here are some pictures from my final Morocco trip to southern Morocco/the Sahara. This was one amazing semester. Now I can post about the next…
Trying to Keep Up
I’m in the middle of my independent research and sitting on a pile of pictures that I haven’t posted. The past few weeks have been packed with travel and (some) research, and I’m pretty sure the next few weeks will be much of the same, but more research. At this point I’ll try to share as much as I can before I leave Morocco in 3 weeks. Crazy.
Here is a round up of Chefchaouen (in Northern Morocco), Spain, and Tangier. A few weeks ago we headed north, crossed a border, and got a taste of European life. It made me miss the west, but when I came back I really started to love Morocco.
Village Times
My village stay seems like a long time ago now, and well, it kind of was. Nonetheless it was pretty cool so I thought I share it. For 3 nights/4 days we were in the middle of Morocco staying with host families, sleeping on cement floors, hiking around hills, and playing with farm animals. The experience meant more than that, but I don’t really have the words for it. So just enjoy the pictures
Around Rabat
I knew I would eventually get lazy and forget about posting. Now it’s the end of March and I have a month’s worth of pictures/activities to share. To start it off here’s an overview of a typical day in Rabat.
7:30 Wake up, eat bread and jam for breakfast and drink Nescafe coffee.
8:30 - 10:30 Darija Class. I attempt to speak and learn Arabic. It sort of works
10:30 - 12:00 Class, which usually isn’t very good, but sometimes the lecturer is decent
12:00 - 1:30 Lunch
1:30 - 4:00ish More class, same situation…usually boring, sometimes good
The afternoons usually consist of going to cafes, hanging out around home, eating pastries, drinking mint tea, and walking around the city/medina. I watch some tv in Arabic, sometimes English, eat dinner around 10 pm and then head to bed after that. This has been my routine for the past 2 months, but this is about to change in 2 weeks when I begin my independent research and live on my own. I’m looking forward to the change of pace.
